MIS Programs in UBC

This page is intended to provide information on the MIS graduate and undergraduate programs at UBC. In 2000/2001, there will be about about 35 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in the MIS program. Most of the Ph.D. graduates have taken positions in universities in Canada, the U.S., Britain, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
 
Bachelor of Commerce  (B.Comm.) -  MIS Option
The Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration has an MIS Option which is intended to provide undergraduate students with the necessary knowledge and skills to employ IT in business. MIS Option courses can be combined with other areas such as accounting, finance, human resources or marketing. Students who are interested in acquiring a deeper technical knowledge can take Computer Science courses. [More...]
 
Co-Op Program in MIS
The Co-operative education program enables students to obtain working experience as part of their studies towards their B.Comm. degree. Students in this program spend four work terms in working for companies. [More...] 
 
MBA Specialization in IT and Management
The MBA program in MIS is intended for students to supplement their previous training or career with current knowledge in information technology and management. It is a general management degree with one-third of the program in MIS.[More...]
 
MM Program in MIS
The Master of Management (MM) program in MIS is intended for students who want to obtain specialized education in Management Information Systems and the use of Information Technology in business for the purpose of pursuing a professional career in MIS. [More ...]
 
MSc Program in MIS
The Master of Science (MSc) program in MIS is intended for students
- with previous education in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any other equivalent areas, and
- who want to obtain skills in conducting research in MIS.

Ph.D. Programs in MIS

The Ph.D. program is intended mostly to prepare the student towards a career in academia or advanced research in industry. The course work in the program includes a Preliminary Core, and a Comprehensive Core. Students who do not have the necessary prerequisites will be required to complete them, normally prior to being admitted to the program.
